Our CA trip started out with a visit to my uncle Kyle where he lives on his sail boat. He took us for a ride (It was super relaxing, we saw sea lions, pelicans, and lots of water) and then we hada little BBQ. Thanks Kyle for the ride, my hubby now wants to retire to the ocean. :)

We went south to Kolob canyon and stayed in Grandma and Grandpa Heaton's cabin. They had already turned the water off, so we had to bring our own water and use the outhouse. So, we had the adventure of roughing it, but the comfort of beds, a kitchen, gas lamps, and a warm fire.

Aaron helped a friend set up his computer system and he kindly gave us a gift certificate to La Caille, a big fancy resturaunt up a beautiful canyon in Salt Lake county. We enjoyed the experience with our friends Scott and Amy Browning. It was quite the sight getting us and our double wheelchairs around.

We had fancy salads, delicious food, dessert, and then they brought out my favorite part, chocolate covered strawberries with a firework display. It was a beautiful place and a fun night. Happy Birthday Amy and Happy 10th Anniversary Bentley's.

We went up to Logan to celebrate with family. This pic was during the program. The year Aaron and I got married was their 50th anniversary and also his grandparents 5oth. We have such great examples of the importance or marriage and family.

Mother's Day

Michelle and her family were here for Mother's Day weekend. Aaron was prepping all the kids for how early they'd need to wake up to make breakfast for the moms. It backfired on him when they woke up at 6:00 am ready to cook. So they made us a delicious breakfast while we slept in.

This was a crazy storm in April. It demolished spring flowers and blossoms on our fruit trees. The hail was so big and heavy it filled up the rain gutters and everything else overflowed.

Gage started wheelchair basketball the first part of Jan. He goes on Sat. for 2 hours. It starts off with 4 practices and then 4 games. Most of the other kids have spina bifida too. It's been really fun; good for him to see others like him and good for me to talk to other moms. I've seen a major change in him. Basketball is awesome!!!

Levi told me a while back that the tooth fairy uses kids teeth to build her castle. Over Christmas break Levi surprised us and wiggled out a loose tooth. The next week he got another one out. Gage is 8 and still hadn't lost one, but he was a good sport and was happy for Levi. The next day at dinner he said mom I have a loose tooth. I smiled that knowing mom smile. Five minutes later it was out and we were all celebrating.

I had no idea how much fun it would be to have kids loosing teeth. So, we're helping build some other ladies castle, putting out good money to do it, and loving it!!!

Inside this beautiful gift was the 1st of 4 clues leading to their big gift from mom and dad. Levi raced to find the 3rd clue. when he found it Gage asked what it said to which Levi replied, "I can't read, you freak" What love.

They found the tramp set up in the basement. Gage said, "This is awesome. when I'm 32 I'm going to do this for my kids."

This is old, but I still need to post it.

A Mon. night the first part of Oct. Aaron couldn't sleep, he was going to St. Louis for work and was worried about leaving me and the kids. I reassured him, we'll be fine. :) Tue morning before he had even landed we had a problem. I was helping one of the kids when I heard a loud thud in the kitchen, you know that sound of a head hitting somehing hard. Judd had been on the kitchen table helping himself to breakfast. He fell off and hit hard. I wasn't there to watch, but Levi said, mom, he almost did a back flip.

At first I wasn't too worried, but it got bigger and bigger. I called our Dr. They said "keep an eye on him" if he's acting abnormal take him to the ER for an x-ray. I called my good friend Amy for her wise opinion. "keep an eye on him" He's OK, I'm convincing myself. Then he's acting funny, I think I'm going to take him in, but I can't do it by myself. I've been to the ER lots of times with Gage, but not by myself with 3 kids, and our insurance has changed, and we haven't met our deductable, and... The doorbell rings. It's Amy! (she felt like she should come over). She makes the decision I couldn't convince myself to do. We're going. I decide on Primary's because I know it well and figure the insurance will work there. We make the long drive and I'm "watching him" the whole time. First he's crying weird, then he falls asleep, lethargic?... Once we got there I thought let's just "watch him" a little longer before we go in and rack up a big bill for nothing. He was moving a little gingerly, but smiling. We got something to eat at the wonderful (sarcasm) cafeteria and he was eating and happy and seemed fine so we drove home. Amy smiled as she dropped me off at home and said thanks for the call and the lunch date. (big smile). I'm so thankful for her friendship and her listening to the spirit and coming when I needed her help.

I'm also grateful he was fine even though he looked pretty rough for a couple of weeks. This pic was about a week after it happened. The goose egg is looking better in this pic, but the black eyes got even worse.

The Bentley family watching our 4th annual Orem Owls game. We love that tradition, love having traditions that we (and hopefully the kids) will remember. Of course we're right there so we do the Krispy Kreme donut tour after. Love it!!!

We also went to a whole bunch of church history sites.

We stayed in Nauvoo for three days. It was a grand adventure. We stayed in a "cabin" along the Mississippi river. Grandpa Brown taught the kids to skip rocks on the river. We caught fire flies (both mom and I had that on our list of things to do before we die). It was a great place to go back to. And I was a little sad to leave, I could feel a little of how the pioneers must have felt leaving that beautiful, peaceful place.

We (Bentley fam and G & G Brown went on a major road trip. The first stop was a way way extended family reunion in Kearney Nebraska. We met lots of family we didn't know we had. We had a great time getting to know them and learning more about our family history.

SORRY! I didn't manage to get any updates while we were at the hospital. We're home now and all is well-back to normal anyway, with the kids fighting. A ton of test later, they never did find Gage's infection. The infectious disease team decided the bumps were sterile absesses. So, Thursday morning they pulled one shunt completely out and internalized the other. We stayed the night, had more CT scans and x-rays and they sent us home with a much happier kiddo, with 62 stitches, covered in iodine which we can't wash completely for 2 weeks. Claire and Judd had their surgeries on Thursday also. Three kids in surgery in one day has got to be some kind of record. There's was so quick. They both came back screaming mad (they say the anesthesia messes them up), but they seem happy now.

Gage is in Primary Children's Hospital. We brought him up Monday evening. It's early for his shunt revision that was already scheduled for the middle of next week because the infected area started bleeding and we didn't want to take any chances. The surgery Late Monday night went well. They took out both shunts. They replaced them with external shunts-the spinal fluid drains into a bag instead of into his body. This is temporary while they do tests and fight the infection. Once the Dr.'s are satisfied that it's gone they will replace one shunt (the other is no longer needed-at least that's what we're all thinking). We don't know exactly how long this will all take. We're planning about a week.
Judd and Claire are still scheduled for Thursday morning surgery. They will both get tubes put in their eyes to fix the clogged tear duct issue. This is same day surgery, so we should be in and out in a few hours.
Thanks mom for staying with the kids. What a weight off our shoulders to know you're there taking good care of them. And thanks to all of you for your support and prayers.
I'll try to keep updates here so you know what's going on in our crazy life.

Spring break in Kanab

We (Amy and the kids) went to Kanab for spring break. I feel a new freedom now that I have been down there by myself (actually my mom helped for an hour on the way down and my parents hitched a ride up with me, then bought a car to drive back home). We went to Zions National Park with Grandma Brown and the Federkeil family. It was fun to do with the kids. My family practically lived growing up.

We enjoyed relaxing, visiting with family, and I watched a bunch of BYUTV with my dad. Now I see why he's addicted. :)

I look forward to doing that during the summer serveral times, well at least once.

March Madness

March Madness is over for our family. Levi took 2nd in the Brown family competition with 80 points. He was only behind Neal who obviously has too much time at work. This is Neals third win, but Levi is already plotting to beat him next year. What a fun family tradition this has become. Thanks mom.

Aaron has a media pass so he'll go to all (or most) of the games. He will be interviewing the Real team after the games this year.

This was the first game of the season and first at the new stadium for the rest of the family. Go Real. The players came up for pictures after the game. I don't know any of their names except Kyle Beckerman (he's easy to spot with dreds), but they're still fun pics.

Happy birthday Levi!!! Ever since we went to Coldstone Levi has been begging for an ice cream cake. Batman with blue frosting gummi bears and sprinkles. So, that's what he got. But we're too cheap to buy it from there so Aaron made it. He did an awesome job don't you think.

Here's the party crowd. He wanted to invite everyone...This is what we got. The boys from his preschool group, 7 of the nieghborhood friends, and at the last minue Federkeils came up for the weekend (to shop) so we had 2 cousins and 2 more adults to help. What fun :)

The kids came in their pajamas for breakfast(pancakes with whipped cream, chocolate chips, sprinkles, strawberries, and syrup) at dinnertime.

After going through the line up twice and not even close to breaking the pinata Aaron and Gabe broke it with their hands and sprinkled the candy over their heads.

Gage, Levi, and Claire had a great time playing home teachers last Sunday (not even the last week of the month). Knock knock... It's the home teachers! Claire would open the door and say, "nice to meet you". The boys came in and then they started fighting about who was giving the lesson. :)

We went to Grandpa Heatons Ranch in Fredonia for some variety. As we pulled in the cows started coming right to us, thinking we were bringing food. It was a bit scary, especially the bull. It was cold too. What could have been super cute pictures turned out to be lots of tears. We gave them candy after and they were fine.

Here's our annual family Christmas picture in front of the tree. What a big family :) We enjoyed staying home this year and taking our time. I loved hearing things like Gage open mine next, you'll love it...

Our back yard neighbors, the Woods, moved to California on Wed. They've been so great. This picture of Annie and Levi makes them look sweet and innocent. That's unusual, usually they're getting into something, digging to find rolly pollies or treats to eat. Annie has been and will always be welcome at our house (even when we don't know she's here). Our friend Andy Rice was hit by a car on Nov. 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. I don't even have a picture of him. We'll miss his Saturday morning phone calls to find out "What's for breakfast?". We'll miss the excuse to go out to eat at Mcdonalds or Golden Corral. We'll miss receiving the first christmas card of the season from Andy. We are so thankful to know that we will see him again and find joy in knowing that his spirit works perfectly without the challenges of his physical body.

Stuck in New York

I feel like we're stuck while life goes on in Saratoga Springs. So I'll finish real quick. We don't really have any more great photo's any way because Aaron wouldn't let me ask anyone to take a picture just in case they decided to take off with it (after all it is a super expenxive, high quality camera :) ). Aaron had classes ( the reason we started the whole trip) and Judd and I hung out in the nice motel room. We went out for lunch and then when he was done we went out for the night. We had an expensive hot dog in Central Park, walked across the Brooklyn bridge, saw the Statue of liberty from afar, and ate at some fun places. Grimaldi's pizza and Junior's cheese cake are the most memorable. We experienced the subway and the buses (the buses were much more disability friendly). We also bought a potato peeler from Joe, "The man in the thousand-dollar suit who sells his $5 potato peelers on New York City street corners six days a week." Such fun memories!!!

The sacred grove was so peaceful. I felt again what I already knew. Joseph Smith went out to pray, searcing for answers and guidance for his life. He received his answer as God and Jesus Christ appeared to him. I was very thoughtful as we walked through the grove. I loved the beauty and peace. I thought this is where I would come to pray too. When I really thought about it I wondered if that is true. Would I have taken time to go and pray in a peaceful place? Do I? This was a great insight I received on our trip.

Our first stop was to get something to eat. This cute little italian place had a two hamburger special with fries and potato salad. He asked if we wanted it garbage lid style. We didn't know what that meant so he explained that the hamburgers are served on top of the fries and salad and it's covered with ketchup, mustard, onions, and hot sauce. He said that's how the locals eat it so we tried it. It was pretty good and a fun experience for sure.

We were driving along enjoying beautiful Pennsylvania when we started to see grapes...lots of them. After a little debating we decide to pull off the main road and look closer. Then we started to smell something... GRAPES. It was so cool. We stapped a picture of this train speeding through the vineyard. Did they see the beauty? Smell the sweetness? I need to stop and smell the grapes. :)

We went on a tour of the Kirtland temple. We really felt the spirit there, especially while we sang "The Spirit of God" as a group.

NY trip

Aaron had a work conference the first of Oct. in NY. Judd and I tagged along for not too much morre. We decided to add on a few more days to see some of the church history sites. We flew into New York where we rented a car and got lost trying to get out of NY. Then we enjoyed seeing the fall colors and the beautiful scenery as we drove to Kirtland, Ohio. Next was Niagra Falls followed by Palmyra, NY. We had some great experiences along the way. We then headed back to the big city where we returned the car as fast as we could. The rest of the time we traveled by foot, bus, or Subway. We are so thankful Grandma Brown was able to stay with the other kids-I think they had as much fun as we did. We also appreciated getting the friends and family rate for the motels and car rental and using my dads GPS system (Maggie) which made some of our little detours possible and would have saved us from other detours if we'd used her sooner. THANKS everyone! Pictures and more details will follow.

"Hey Caden & Griffin, remember that parade we went to with your family? It started raining and we were the smart ones who left just in time?" We stayed just long enough to get some good candy and have a fun story to tell.
When we got home Halee kept the kids busy practicing then they did some dances for us. It was a great time relaxing with family .

Gages 1st day of 1st grade

Gage was up early and ready for school with Mrs. Paepke this morning. He's so excited for all day and eating lunch at school. He thinks he's too big to ride the bus with the preschoolers still, but it picks him up so we're happy. I am a little nervous about him being gone all day. Can't wait till he gets home to see how every thing went.

We got to go to Lagoon one Saturday morning thanks to the Utah Kidney Foundation and the Bentleys kindness.

The train was great because all six of us could go on it together.

We all have different abilities

We went to this event to try out some disability sports.

Gage and I tried them all. Hand cycling, archery, wheelchair basketball, and sled hockey.

We both expecially loved sled hockey. It was on my list of "things to do before I die". -I've done it. Gage seems to really enjoy winter activities, this is definitely one of them.
